Learning On Your Terms
At one time colleges, universities and adult schools offered "enrichment courses." These were noncredit courses designed for individuals who just wanted to learn things like novel writing, art, literature, self-improvement, etc. Today, the economic reality is that these types of courses are disappearing, and where they remain, the cost is often prohibitive for many individuals.
I teach at a California community college. Right now, if you wanted to sign up for one of my courses, you would pay nearly $140 plus books and the application fee. In addition to that, you would need a parking permit and gas to get to the school. And, this is one of the lowest costs in the country.
The private sector is not any better. I saw a novel writing course taught by someone who had not even written a novel being offered by a major writing school for more than $500.
We want to change that. Modern technology and the Internet have created a situation where content oriented products - like professional level courses - can be offered for much less than a brick and mortar school.
The philosophy of this site is to provide you with a variety of courses at a price you can afford with many of them being offered for free.

Magazine Writing Course. Perhaps the easiest way to break into publishing and get paid for your efforts is through magazine writing. Learn how to propose an article to a magazine, how to research, write, edit, and submit your article. The instructor guided premium course includes professional critiques of one query letter and two magazine articles. This is an 18 week course. Premium course fee: $19.95
Social Media and Beyond: Digital Communication for Writers. Today's writer works in a connected world. From Facebook to Twitter. From blogs to epublishing, the writer's world is changing. In this course learn about using Facebook and Twitter for professional networking and marketing, write professional emails, develop ways to maintain contact with fans and publishers and how to publish both on the web and through ebook channels.
